ibth - Did anything change in the music scene between 2002 and right now, since last time when you toured the UK with the Icarus Line, which was in 2002, right ? Like in the crowds, in the venues, in the touring conditions.. or is it still pretty much the same ?

Troy - Erm.. it's much, much, much colder than it was before. At least than I remember. I don't remember it being that cold ever.. oh my god. But as much as UK's music is concerned.. i don't know much about it.

ibth - I'll tell you one thing - it's worse at other seasons, the weather hasn't turned bad yet. You might want to factor that into your touring plans..

Troy - Oh, I'm NEVER gonna come back out here without my big coat again..

ibth - Do you generally enjoy touring in the UK ? Is it a cool place to tour ? Scratch that.. not "the UK", rather the whole of Great Britain and Ireland..

Troy - I don't know, it's been so long since I've done it before. With The Icarus Line I did it once.. and then the next time it was mostly continental Europe.. Italy, Austria, stuff like that. But the first time we did the UK was great, it was amazing. The first show we played was the Barfly and it was sold out and the kids were losing their minds. It was feeling like I was in the raddest band in the world so I didn't care ! People asking me for my autograph and no one had ever even seen us before.. And I'm in this band and all of a sudden and it's kinda ridiculous.. but it was an interesting experience.

ibth - Was there anything that was especially annoying to you - aside from the cold - while touring the UK ? Is there anything that you'd really want to change in this country cause you really hate it ?

Troy - In the UK this time ? Oh, I wish we had a bus, I wish we had a driver, I wish we weren't driving. But that's not against the country. The country's fine.. it's beautiful, I have some amazing pictures. As far as the country, the country's perfect, it's fine. Erm, maybe they could get some better food ?

ibth - You're two days away from going home, so what do you miss most from there?

Troy - Oh I can always do with some good mexican food.. maybe a Taco. Maybe an enchilada. Let's see what else do I want..

ibth - Warmth ?

Troy - Yeah, warmth. I'm missing some sun. Yeah. I'm looking forward to defrosting..

ibth - Thawing..

Troy - ..yeah with the 90° F weather at home. The last few summers have been so hot, that I started hating the sun. My electricity bills have been so high.. and I've been subjected to my room, which is like 15 feet by 12. So I'm stuck there with my air-con on and I don't get to go outside cause I'm melting. And now I'm looking forward to being hot and to be able to take my shirt off and wearing a tank top ! So, yeah, that's it..

ibth - You'll have to send us pictures of you with a tank top..

Troy - I will ! I'm sure you guys have some photos of me doing and looking worse..

ibth - You mean with the pink wellies and the rainbow flag ?

Troy - Oh, yeah..

ibth - What does an average day on the road as the drummer of Jubilee look like ? When you're not wearing the pink wellies that is..

Troy - What is it like ? Oh, it's me just havin' fun, like wakin' up..

ibth - Waking up.. errr, sounds like fun already..

Troy - Yeah ! Everyday I wake up it's just a party. I wake up and it's like "Yeaaahhh ! Let's do shit ! It's 3 o'clock !" Let's cancel the show and go.. frickin' do somethin' else.. Erm, no, it's strange, everyday, havin' to wake up..

ibth - Is everyday pretty much the same ?

Troy - Kind of. Basically yeah, cause you get a routine, it's the same thing..

ibth - Ok, 3 PM wake-up, how does the routine go from there ?

Troy - Yeah 3 PM and coffee. Harris is making coffee already and he's on his third or fourth cup.. and we're still getting up. And I'm getting out of the bathroom, that's where I've slept. Bunch of jokes, you know, about balls and ass.. and it's really childish, but it's funny, cause we're basically a bunch of kids.. (chuckles). And then we leave and we get in our van and someone drives.. and in the van we put somethin on, like a dvd or some music or me dancing topless in the back, something has to happen, you know to keep it alive and going.. Or else it gets dull. Or if it's not that I'm sleepin', someone's watching "LOST" on the computer.. And there's load-in, soundcheck, support act. And we go backstage and look for food or we try to find food somewhere else.. and try to find some money to get something to eat..

ibth - And then you kill it on stage..

Troy - Not yet. We try to get dressed and make sure we look ok, or ideal, and we make sure we got our eyeliner on..

ibth - (chuckles) That's important..

Troy - Yeah, well, the important stuff. You know, you gotta make sure you look good. And the we KILL IT on stage.. or we try to anyways.. or we do.. even when we don't, we do.

ibth - And then you're totally exhausted, but you still need to debuild and carry everything down the eight flights of stairs again..

Troy - Which takes me awhile.. takes me about an hour, before I even wanna go back to the stage and even look at the drums again or whatever carnage and destruction is left of it..

ibth - We've been talking about your support act, Les Gars, just a moment ago. We've been seeing you checking them out, quite a lot of times actually. How do you feel about them ? Do you dig them ?

Troy - They're cool ! They're a good rock'n'roll band.. I like 'em, I dunno what else to say, they're cool. They're like my bros or friends - I've been living with them basically for the last month or so.. they're super nice guys and they're fun to hang out with. And musically, it's just rock'n'roll, it's simple, but it's fun.

ibth - Straightforward..

Troy - Yeah, straightforward. Not trying to be anything but what it is, which is cool.

ibth - If you guys had to cover one of their songs, which one would you chose ?

Troy - Oh, I have no idea of any of their song titles..

ibth - Don't know all the titles either. But there's "Rat Race Mob", "Haircut And A Gun", there's "Rooftop Lover"..

Troy - I don't know, there's one that goes.. [Troy hums the melody, drums the song's rhythm on the ferry table..]

ibth - .. erm that could be "Haircut And A Gun".. And if there was a Jubilee song that you'd suggest them to cover, which one would fit ?

Troy - Not sure they could cover any of our songs.. I don't know, no idea.

ibth - They've been singing a very convincing version of "Frown Town" the other day..

Troy - "Frown Town".. haha, that's right.. I've heard that one. Yeah I guess I'd give them "Frown Town" to cover in their hick version, or whatever they wanna do, with banjo and all that.

ibth - Is there any music in general, are there any new bands that you really, really dig and everyone should check it out, because it's awesome ? To broaden one's horizon ?

Jubilee
					at The Duchess, York

Troy - Oh, erm.. I haven't really listened to music in a long time ever since spinnerette and then Jubilee.. I haven't even listened to anything apart from those two bands for the past like four or five months.. But the last thing before that was probably UNKLE.

ibth - UNKLE's "War Stories" ?

Troy - And it's funny, cause there are similarities to what Jubilee's doing, I think. With the different drummers and guests and as for what UNKLE did, with all the different guests vocalists and the production and all. And it's cool with the all the different sounds, I love that record "War stories", it's one of the best records that came out that year.

ibth - Agreed, hands down. So what's your favourite song on there ?

Troy - Favourite song ? It's a tosser between "Hold My Hand" and "Morning Rage". But there's also the "More stories" that came out, there's three tracks that didn't make it onto the other record and that are really good. And one of them is called , oh god, what's it called ? Er, "Fade To Black" ? Something black.. it has a total Depeche Mode feel, it's really, really cool. Yeah UNKLE is probably it. And yeah, the production, the sound of it, is fuckin' stellar ! It's perfect ! It sounds like.. when I'm playing drums, that's how I wish it would sound.. the tones, the bass, it has that kinda dancy vibe..

ibth - But very organic at the same time, very rock'n'roll..

Troy - It's really clear and upfront..

ibth - It's got the best of both worlds.. Erm.. is there anything you'd want to add to the interview, that we haven't asked ?

Troy - Arghh.. I don't know. I'm actually getting sick all of a sudden with all the motion and the back and forth.. and I feel like I'm drunk or seasick..

ibth - So, quickly, any final words of wisdom ?

Troy - No ! ibth - No wisdom ?

Troy - Just keep on rockin' in the free world ! I don't know, I don't have any words..

ibth - You had a lot of words ! Thank you very, very much !

Troy - Thank you - it's been really cool.. we should just keep going and talk about some more stuff..

ibth - ANY time ! But thank you again !
