There are very few things in life that actually make it worth living.. no, scratch this. There are actually quite a lot of things in life making it even downright pleasant and enjoyable. But very few of them are actually capable of making life acutely beautiful.. moving.. thrilling. Music is one of them - and what's even better than recorded music is live music. To us, Jubilee is the most exciting thing that happened to music in a very long time, and everyone who's seen any of these guys on any given stage can try and imagine the potential of this band live. So, even if we hate the intrawebs, and can't code to save our dear lives (not that we would care.. see one, do one, teach one, as they say), we decided to set up this site, www.isolatebythehour.com, to chronicle the experience of seeing Jubilee play. We figured we'd put together the scraps of memories and files we picked along the way.. try and share the vibe of the concerts.. and, for those who couldn't attend (or those others who chose not to.. losers!), give a glimpse of what they missed. It was going to be all about the venues, the support bands, the lighting, the sound settings, the setlists, the gear.. all such things - but most of all, about the live music. And then we got aware it was kind of absurd not to mention what was at the heart of it all, the recorded music, the evolution of the band, the endless list of musical contributors.. There's no way anyone can be exhaustive about anything anymore with that whole "information age" thing raging out there…and let's say there are more vital and enjoyable passtimes than spending warm summer days indoors, writing frightening code or sieving through the data streams and fishing in the puddles of the global village. But we'll try somehow to keep close track: as they reach us, all sorts of Jubilee related news will be collected here and also there. One last point : "isolate by the hour", qu'est-ce que c'est ? Obviously, we nicked our name off the lyrics to the Jubilee song "Fool on the pill", and hijacked its meaning kinda - isolation through time rather than space, it's an idea we liked a lot.. Seems to be at the core of rock'n'roll as well.. writing and recording till dawn.. screwed up sleeping patterns.. wild timezone shifts messing up your mind.. jetlag..living in your own cycles that never seem to overlap with the outer world's (in parts we could even relate somehow.) And suddenly from isolation comes music, a deeper connection than a shared clock.. well, something like that. Plus, it's the first song of Jubilee we ever got to hear.. the moment left quite an imprint. Enough talk already.. So, to the recordings and concerts past, and to those to come.. isolate by the hour - june 22, 2008. |
